| PHP |
The PHP Hypertext Preprocessor is a freely available server-side, cross-platform, programming language that allows web developers to create dynamic content that interacts with databases. PHP is a HTML embedded scripting language that is used for developing web based software applications.

| Plug-in |
Plug-in tools are small self-contained programs added to a web browser in order to provide dynamic functionality, for example multimedia capabilities. For this you would use the Flash or Java plug-ins. There are various other plug-ins available for all types of necessities.

| Search Engine |
Internet search engines like Google and AltaVista help users find web pages on a given subject. The search engines maintain databases of web sites and use programs often referred to as "spiders" or "robots", to collect information, which is then indexed by the search engine. Once sites have been indexed the search engine uses this information where relevant, to help people to find those sites.

| Shopping Cart |
A shopping cart is a piece of software that keeps track of all the items that a buyer wants to purchase while on an e-commerce site, and then presents theses items when the user asks for them. It can be confused with a product managements system where you enter all your products and display them on your site, but its just the mechanism whereby people can add items from your product database to a list and remember them at the time of purchase.

SQL is a standardized query language for requesting or updating information to and from a database, it is pronounced either see-kwell or as separate letters.

| SSI |
SSI stands for Server Side Include. It is a method of invoking script programs that run on the web server to instruct the server what to include in a dynamically generated Web page by inserting code into a template web page.

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a commonly-used protocol for managing the security of a message transmission over the Internet. It is used in conjunction with the HTTP protocol and is know as HTTPS which also includes the use of a digital certificate.

| Statistics |
Detailed information regarding your web site, including the number of hits, the source of those hits, most popular pages and amount of data transferred, as well as other useful information.

| Subdomain |
A domain name created by adding a prefix to an existing domain name. For example “support.redpebble.ie” is a subdomain of “redpeble.ie”.

| Unix |
A computer operating system developed by AT&T Bell Labs and used by many people at the same time (it is multi-user) and has TCP/IP built-in. It is the most common operating system for servers on the Internet.

| URL |
An acronym for "Uniform Resource Locator" this is the address of a resource on the Internet. Such as a html file http://www.redpebble.ie/ brings you to the RedPebble home page. The resource can be an HTML page like the one you're reading now, an image file, a program such as a common gateway interface application or Java applet, or any other file supported by HTTP.

| Video Streaming |
The process of providing video data or content via a web page.

| Virtual Server |
A virtual server is a web server which shares its resources with multiple users. It's another way of saying that multiple web sites share the resources of one server.

| Web Server |
A server provides services to other computers, because it is a web server it stores and delivers (serves up) web pages, unlike a Mail server which would store and handle email requests. To access web pages a user needs a web browser which communicates to a web server which relays the requested page.

| Webcam |
A digital camera usually connected to a computer and is capable of capturing video and still images and broadcasting them over the internet. Webcam allows you to take live video pictures through the computer and use for videoconferencing. In order to achieve this you must first interact with software, the webcam cannot do this by itself. A live cam is one that is continually providing new images that are transmitted in rapid succession or, in some cases, in streaming video. Sites with live cams sometimes embed them as Java applets in Web pages.
